December 27 - 30

About 120 of the best junior golfers from around the world will be participating at the Orange Bowl International Golf Championship. This highly competitive event welcomes golfers based on their rankings within their country's golf federation, to ensure that only the top-ranking players will face in this exciting round of games. Tiger Woods, Sergio Garcia, Inbee Park, Camilo Villegas, and Nick Price, are among the recognizable faces who've participated previously on this tournament. The games will take place between 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Biltmore's Golf Course located at 1210 Anastasia Avenue. For more information call the JOBC at 305-662-1210.

December 30

The Junior Orange Bowl Committee presents its signature event: the 60th Annual Junior Orange Bowl Parade, "Moon over Miami." This is a traditional event that brings together children and adults for a celebration along Downtown Coral Gables. Enjoy marching bands, colorful floats, and community groups united in a dazzling spectacle. The parade provides an opportunity for families to create delightful memories for their children, friends and neighbors as the end of the year approaches. The event is free but grandstand tickets for a better view are available at $10 per person. For more information, contact 305-662-1210.

December 27

The Coral Gables Branch of the Miami-Dade Public Library System is holding a book discussion group in Spanish. This is great opportunity to meet other avid readers and discuss your favorite book. The book discussion group will meet at 1:30 p.m. at the Coral Gables Branch Library, 3443 Segovia Street. For more information, call 305-442-8706.

January 4

Sunday Afternoons of Music starts the New Year with what is expected to be a thrilling performance from Cuban American soprano Eglise Gutierrez. Eglise has traveled throughout the world performing on the greatest opera stages. She now comes to Coral Gables’ University of Miami Maurice Gusman Concert Hall, 1314 Miller Drive, for a memorable afternoon. The show starts at 4 p.m. Tickets cost $40 for adults, $32 for seniors and $10 for students. If you would like to purchase tickets or for more information click here.

January 5 through April 23

Coral Gables Senior High School is offering free adult education classes, beginning this January. The Coral Gables Adult Education Center, which is operated at this high school location, is offering Citizenship, English for Speakers of Other Languages, GED Preparation and Computer Classes for adults. Other affordable community school classes available at this location include Spanish, Tai-chi, oil painting, wrestling, financial planning, and much more. There is also free child-care available for students. Registration is now open for the next term which begins January 5 through April 23. Fore more information, contact the school at 305-443-4871.

January 7

The timeless story of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory will come alive at the Coral Gables War Memorial Youth Center but not before auditions are held to cast the characters. This Miami Childrens Theater production is looking for children and young adults. Auditions will take place at the Theater, 405 University Drive, from 6 – 8 p.m. For more information, call the Miami Childrens Theater at 305-274-3595.

January 7 – March 11

The Music Together program for children at the Coral Gables War Memorial Youth Center is a great way to introduce young children to music. The teacher leads the class of infants and children in a variety of songs, rhythm activities and movements. Parents must attend with children under four years of age. The class meets on Wednesdays at the Youth Center, 405 University Drive, and there is a selection of times available. January 8 – 22

The City’s Senior Citizens Division is offering Computer Classes for people 55 plus that want to join the information age. The classes which take place on Thursdays are for real beginners. There are two sessions you can pick from: 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. or 1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. The cost of the classes which will be held at the Coral Gables Adult Activity Center at University Baptist Church, 624 Anastasia Avenue, is $90. January 14

Seniors are invited to attend the world premiere of Bombshells – The Musical. The provocative production revolves around six women who grow into friends by airing dirty laundry through laughter and tears. Gather your friends and meet at the Actors’ Playhouse at Miracle Theatre, 280 Miracle Mile, at 7:30 p.m. Pre-registration is required by December 31st.
