January 22

Working late? Want to socialize with others? Don't have time to cook? ‘Let's Do Dinner!' is a special program for active seniors 55 and older to enjoy a great meal together. This activity takes place the fourth Thursday of the month. Participants meet at TGI Fridays at 6 p.m. and each pays their own bill. Register by calling Anastasia Smith at 305-460-5609.

January 24 & 25

Chocolate lovers your time has come to indulge in all things chocolate! Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden presents the Third Annual International Chocolate Festival. Visitors will have two full days, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., to enjoy a chocolate spa, learn how to make the delicious treat and explore the rainforest to learn how chocolate grows. Of course samples will be provided — while supplies last. Admission into Fairchild Gardens is $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and $10 for children ages 6–17. January 24 – February 1

The Miami Jewish Film Festival arrives in Coral Gables. Matinee and evening screenings are scheduled at the University of Miami Cosford Cinema. Tickets cost $11 for general admission, $8 for seniors and $7 for film society members. There will be a variety of films playing. For a list and tickets, click here or call 1-888-585-FILM.

January 24 & 31

The City of Coral Gables kicks off the growing season with the popular Farmers Market. On January 24 at 8 a.m. take a Tai Chi class at Merrick Park across from City Hall followed by a gardening workshop at 9 a.m. with Andres Mejides of Elfin Acres Organic Farm on Organic Vegetable Gardening. At 10 a.m. owner of Gables Green Café Ana Rabel will host a cooking demonstration and at 11 a.m., activities for children include learning about recycling and making crafts. Also on January 24, the Tropical Green Festival with the Coral Gables Garden Club will take place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Come and enjoy energy booths, environmental lectures and other green activities. On January 31, enjoy Tai Chi at the park followed by a gardening workshop with Wendy Fleming Saltzburg of Wendy’s Landscaping and Design on Perennials with Colors. The cooking demonstration will be conducted by Caffe Abbracci and the children’s activity will be a hands-on presentation of musical instruments. For more information, call 305-460-5312.

The Chopin Foundation of the U.S. presents pianist Spencer Myer. This musical concert will take place at Granada Presbyterian Church located at 950 University Drive at 3 p.m. This event is open to the public. For more information, call 305-284-4941.

Sunday Afternoons of Music for Children continues its season with Rick Hubbard and his rock and roll band. This interactive rock and roll show is great for the whole family. The show starts at 3 p.m. at the Gusman Concert Hall located on the campus of the University of Miami, 1314 Miller Drive. Tickets cost $10 for children and $12 for adults. January 29 – February 28

A children’s classic fairytale is adapted for the stage. Alice In Wonderland is being featured at Actors’ Playhouse Musical Theatre for Young Audiences. The performances take place on Saturdays at 2 p.m. The price of admission is $15. The Actors’ Playhouse is located at the Miracle Theatre at 280 Miracle Mile. January 31 – April 5

The Lowe Art Museum at the University of Miami is proud to present Las Artes de Mexico from the Collection of the Gilcrease Museum in Oklahoma. The exhibition examines over 3,500 years of art and culture from the ancient worlds of the Mayans and Aztecs to the 20th century works of famous artists such as Miguel Covarrubias and Diego Rivera. The Lowe Art Museum is located on the University of Miami grounds, 1301 Stanford Drive. The exhibition will be available from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursdays and 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays. February 6

Coral Gables very popular Daddy & Daughter Dance returns for the ninth year. On Friday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., fathers and daughters come dressed in their best and enjoy a night of dancing, dinner and fun in what has become a valentine tradition. This year's event will take place at the Coral Gables Woman's Club, 1001 East Ponce de Leon Boulevard. Prices range from $28–$48. Space is limited. The deadline to register is January 31. February 7

Carnival en Miami presents the Coronation of the Queen which marks the beginning of the carnival season with Colombian roots. Music and performances will follow. The event takes place at 2 p.m. at Fred B. Hartnett/Ponce Circle Park, 2810 Ponce de Leon Boulevard. For more information, call 305-321-6300.

Through February 15

New Theatre presents the world premiere of Kissing, a quirky romantic comedy written by Robert Caisley. The story revolves around an illicit kiss and how lives spin out of control during an office softball game. Show times are Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 8 p.m. ad Sundays at 1 p.m. Tickets range from $15 to $40. For more information, call 305-443-5909.
