Wednesdays

Join old friends and meet new ones during a pleasant, sociable lunch. Let's Do Lunch! is held every Wednesday at 12 noon at the Adult Activity Center at 624 Anastasia Avenue. The menu follows: February 4: Salmon/ February 11: Chicken Marsala/ February 18: Lasagna (meat or vegetable). Fee is $6 per person. For more details on how to register please call 305-460-5609.

February 5 – May 5

Sign up for Tai Chi Classes for Seniors and receive all the benefits from the oriental culture. This is a three-session class per month. Tai Chi relaxes the body and the mind, improves balance to prevent falls, improves coordination and concentration, helps control circulation and provides a sense of well being. Registration costs $45 for three months or $20 per month. For more information on registration, call 305-460-5609.

February 6

Coral Gables Museum's Architecture and Design Lecture Series continues with a presentation by author and historian Arva Moore Parks. The subject of the lecture is Green before Green: George Merrick and the Environment. Parks will discuss Merrick's environmentally correct design principles and his methodology for greening the Gables. This free lecture begins at 7 p.m. at the Old Spanish Village Sales Gallery, 2901 Ponce de Leon Boulevard. Seating is limited and reservations are required. February 6

Art In The Park returns to Fred B. Hartnett/Ponce Circle Park in Coral Gables celebrating the month of love. Enjoy a romantic night under the starts while listening to a concert of jazz, blues, funk and reggae with blends of Afro-Cuban music. The program starts at 6 p.m. until The event offers activities for children, exhibits of paintings, photography and crafts by local artists. The Fred B. Hartnett/Ponce Circle Park is located at 2810 Ponce de Leon Boulevard.

February 7

Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden will be hosting a Gala in the Garden - A Night of Romance. This year's fundraising event will begin with cocktails and a silent auction followed by dinner and dancing. Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden is located at 10901 Old Cutler Road. February 7

Carnival en Miami presents the Coronation of the Queen which marks the beginning of the carnival season with Colombian roots. Music and performances will follow. The event takes place at 2 p.m. at Fred B. Hartnett/Ponce Circle Park, 2810 Ponce de Leon Boulevard. For more information, call 305-321-6300.

February 7

Spend Saturday mornings enjoying the Farmers Market. Start the day at 8 a.m. with a Tai Chi class at Merrick Park across from City Hall. At 9 a.m. attend a Gardening Workshop on orchids presented by Peter Kouchalakos of PCK Orchids and Exotic Plants. Then listen to a wine lecture at 10 a.m. by Wolfe’s Wine Shop. Children have their own activity at 11 a.m. when Metro Zoo presents Zoo on Wheels which gives kids an up close and personal look at some interesting animals. The Farmers Market takes place on Biltmore Way, right in front of City Hall, 405 Biltmore Way. For more information, call 305-460-5312.

February 8

Honor the men and women of our Armed Forces by participating in the Tribute to the Military 5k Run & Fitness Walk. The event starts and ends at Merrick Park across from City Hall. Run through beautiful Coral Gables neighborhoods and around the Granada Golf Course. After the race, stay for refreshments, Shorty's BBQ, interactive displays, music, and fun! The race starts at 8 a.m. Prices vary from $10 to $25. To register, click here.

February 14

If you’re goal is to have a memorable Valentine’s Day, then Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden is the place is where you need to take your sweetheart. The garden is hosting the Sizzling Sandoval concert featuring jazz trumpeter Arturo Sandoval and vocalist Wendy Pedersen. The event starts at 7 p.m. Just bring your picnic basket, refreshments and a blanket and enjoy a starlight night at Fairchild Garden while the romantic music fills the air. February 14

Children have their own activity. At 11 a.m. Books & Books wants you to meet author Eric Carle’s caterpillar from “A Very Hungry Caterpillar” and make butterfly crafts to take home. Through February 15

New Theatre presents the world premiere of Kissing, a quirky romantic comedy written by Robert Caisley. The story revolves around an illicit kiss and how lives spin out of control during an office softball game. Show times are Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 8 p.m. ad Sundays at 1 p.m. Tickets range from $15 to $40. For more information, call 305-443-5909. New Theatre is located at 4120 Laguna Street.

February 18

Learn more about a unique program being offered to Coral Gables residents that allows seniors to remain in their homes during their golden years. The Coral Gables Community Foundation introduces the benefits of a Coral Gables@HOME membership during their Coral Gables@HOME Informational Workshop. Meet at the Coral Gables branch Public Library, 3443 Segovia Street, at 10 a.m. Coral Gables now boasts the first non-profit membership organization in Florida designed to provide wellness, transportation, household and social and cultural services to residents 50 years-of-age and older. Coffee and pastries will be served. The event is free, but seating is limited. Reservations are required by February 13 and can be made by calling 305-443-4011.
