The Latin American Studies Film Series presents Calypso Dreams. This film captures the spirit and dynamics of revered Calypso singers from the island country of Trinidad and Tobago. The documentary features archival footage, photographs and interviews with some of the legends of the Calypso world. Watch this independent film at the University of Miami’s Cosford Cinema which is located on the second floor of the Memorial Building in Coral Gables. Need to get your Tax Return paperwork in order? Don’t worry, let trained and certified AARP volunteers help! Tomorrow and next Thursday will be your last opportunity to take advantage of this free service. Starting at 12:30 p.m., these individuals are available to prepare your federal tax return and provide tax counseling services. Just bring all of the necessary documents to the Coral Gables Branch of the Public Library located at 3443 Segovia Street.

April 2 – May 28

For those who feel stuck on their creative path, or just want to pursue new creative endeavors, this workshop will lead you through a comprehensive program devoted to stirring creativity and developing imagination. You will learn to explore ways to deepen, expand and clarify yourself as you navigate these uncertain times. The Artist's Way workshop by best-selling author Julia Cameron will take place at Paper Emporium, 231 Aragon Avenue, Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The cost of the eight-week course is $125. The Coral Gables Museum continues its Architecture and Design Lecture Series with a presentation by author and historian Arva Moore Parks on “The Villages: From the Craft Section to Old Spanish Village.” Moore Parks will highlight the history of the architectural “village” theme and how it was at the heart of the City's plan. The lecture takes place at 7 p.m. during Gallery Night in the Gables at 2901 Ponce de Leon Boulevard, the sales gallery for Old Spanish Village. April 6

The silver screen comes to the Senior Center. Watch a movie and enjoy light refreshments for free. Movies start at 1 p.m. Now showing: Pride and Prejudice (2005). For more information, call 305-460-5609.

April 7 – 21

The City is welcoming seniors with basic computer knowledge to enroll in Level 2 Computer Classes. The course teaches how to customize the taskbar, using internet tools and adding printer loading software, to name a few. Classes meet on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. or 1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. This class is being offered at the Coral Gables War Memorial Youth Center. The Senior Division will soon establish lab hours for seniors wanting to practice. For more information, call 305-460-5609. Session costs $90.

April 9 – 23

The City is welcoming seniors into the technological age with beginner computer classes. This course is for real beginners. Learn how to turn on the computer, use a mouse, start-up menus, icons and much more. Classes are held Tuesdays 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. or 1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. at the Coral Gables Adult Activity Center, 624 Anastasia Avenue. Session costs $90. Call 305-460-5609 for more information.

April 11

Coral Gables Egg Hunt is the biggest simultaneous egg hunt in all of Florida. Don’t miss out on the fun this year. Participate in any of the egg hunts happening at 15 city parks from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. There will be prized eggs and one golden egg with a fabulous prize. After the hunt, head over to Fred B. Hartnett/Ponce Circle Park, 2810 Ponce de Leon Boulevard starting at 11 a.m. for food, games, rides and crafts. Seniors will have their own special egg hunt taking place at Merrick Park in front of City Hall, 405 Biltmore Way, starting at 10 a.m. For more information, or for a list of parks, click here.
