Events Roundup Here is a partial list of upcoming cultural events in Coral Gables. May 13 – June 7 The Actors' Playhouse at Miracle Theatre presents the Florida Premiere of Havana Bourgeois. This dramatic play explores the impact of Fidel Castro's Revolution on the Cuban middle class. Relive this compelling moment in history as seen through the eyes of the people who lived through it. Performances will take place Wednesdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. with an additional matinee on Wednesday, May 20th at 2 p.m. Tickets cost $40 on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sunday matinee, $48 for Friday and Saturday evenings. Presented by the Globe Café and Bar, this event draws thousands of people into the city's downtown area for the free concert. This year singer Isaac Delgado, known as “the king of Cuban cool,” will be the headliner. The block party celebrating Cuba's heritage will take place on the 300 block of Alhambra Circle starting at 12 p.m. with the concert starting later that night. Leave your children at the Coral Gables Youth Center where they will enjoy a sleep-over party with special activities. Guests will be given snacks and breakfast the next morning. Drop off your child at 7 p.m. and pick them up no later than 9 a.m. the next morning. The sleep-over is designed for children 5 – 14 years of age. Prices vary from $29 - $47. The play, performed by children, will take a classic children's story and adapt it for the stage. May 17 The Chopin Foundation of the U.S. presents pianist Claire Huangci. This musical concert will take place at Granada Presbyterian Church located at 950 University Drive at 3 p.m. This event is open to the public. For more information, call 305-284-4941. May 19 Cherish Adoptive Families of Miami, a support group for individuals and families considering adoption and parents that have adopted, will hold an educational program titled "Writing a Memoir of Your Adoption Experience." The free special meeting will take place at Books & Books, 265 Aragon Avenue, at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will include basic tips on writing a Lifebook for the adopted child. May 23 It’s that time of year when you head outdoors and support local charities by participating in the 14th Annual Baptist Health Tour of the Gables 5K Run/Walk. The event is presented by the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce. This is a great opportunity to take in the beautiful scenic landscapes of Coral Gables while raising money for various charitable organizations. Free parking is available at the parking garage on Andalusia Avenue, close to LeJeune Road. Through May 24 New Theatre has extended its premiere of Mauritius due to popular demand. This funny play will have you at the edge of your seat with every plot twist. Written by Pulitzer Prize nominated Theresa Rebeck, shows the feud that ensues when two half sisters come into possession of their late mother's rare stamp collection.
