December 11 – 13

The Coral Gables Museum celebrates its second annual Gingerbread House Contest. The contest was a great success last year, so don't miss out on the fun this year. Kids, families, professionals and businesses are all welcomed to compete for cash prizes totaling $2,500. Entries will be on display to the public for three days at the temporary offices of the Coral Gables Museum, 275 Giralda Avenue. The awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, December 13th at 4 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to vote for their favorite entry. The viewer's choice award is a $500 cash prize. December 11

Getting into the holiday spirit is easier than ever with Seraphic Fire's Christmas Concert. The chamber choir will sing traditional Christmas carols by candlelight. December 13

The Annual Menorah Lighting and Festival of Lights sponsored by Aronfeld Trial Lawyers, Miami Children’s Hospital, Chabad of Downtown Coral Gables, and FeVi Concierge takes place December 13, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. The event will be held this year at Miami Children’s Hospital at 3100 S.W. 62 Avenue. Please bring a new, unwrapped toy for distribution to patients in the hospital and join us for children’s characters, toys, games, food and music. For more information, contact 305-441-0440.

Sunday Afternoons of Music will feature pianist Boris Giltburg. The Russian musician will be performing compositions from Beethoven, Chopin and Rachmaninov to name a few. The concert will take place at the University of Miami's Maurice Gusman Concert Hall, 1314 Miller Drive, at 4 p.m. Tickets cost $35 for adults and $30 for seniors. December 15

The Greater Miami Symphonic Band invites you to a holiday celebration. The Holiday Concert performance will take place at the Maurice Gusman Concert Hall located at the University of Miami, 1314 Miller Drive, at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for students. December 20

Sunday Afternoons of Music will feature Isabel Bayrakdarian. The young soprano won first prize at the prestigious Placido Domingo “Operalia” Competition in 2000 and was the winner of the “Artist of the Year” award from the Canadian Opera Company. The concert will take place at the University of Miami's Maurice Gusman Concert Hall, 1314 Miller Drive, at 4 p.m. Tickets cost $35 for adults and $30 for seniors. Through December 20

New Theatre presents the moving play, 26 Miles. A Cuban mother defies a custody ruling, kidnaps her estranged daughter and the two drive west in search of the authentic American experience. This funny performance reminds us that the best souvenirs on the road of life are the relationships we make along the way. Performances are held Thursdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 1 p.m. New Theatre is located at 4120 Laguna Street. Through December 26

Make the holidays more magical for your children when you take them to see Madeline's Christmas, a holiday production of the Theatre for Young Audiences at the Actors' Playhouse at Miracle Theatre. The musical is based on the popular book series. Performances are held on Saturdays at 2 p.m. Tickets cost $17 per person. From the creators of Married ALIVE! comes a musical comedy that gives people cause to examine what the holiday season is really about. Another Night Before Christmas provides a timeless look at the dilemmas and joys of the holiday season and parallels the emotions of the memorable film Miracle on 34th Street. Performances take place at the Actors' Playhouse at Miracle Theatre, 280 Miracle Mile, Thursdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets cost $40 for weeknights and Sunday matinees, $48 for Friday and Saturday evenings.
