February 10 – 28

A play that addresses diversity issues unique to Miami will be performed at the Actors' Playhouse at Miracle Theatre. Melt by Michael McKeever depicts the story of how three families- one Cuban, one African American and one Jewish- collide, intermingle and eventually blend or melt into an intricately woven tapestry of family, history and hope. February 19

Cuban American mezzo-soprano Mabel Ledo is coming to Coral Gables for the romantic concert A Valentine's Nostalgia. Ledo will be performing a program that includes composers such as De Falla, Bizet and Prokofiev. The performance takes place at 8 p.m. at the Maurice Gusman Concert Hall at the University of Miami, 1314 Miller Drive. Tickets range from $15 to $60. February 19

The Coral Gables Fire Department will be teaching residents how to perform CPR. This is not a certification course but it does, however, teach seniors the lifesaving skill. The free CPR course takes place in the chapel at the senior center, 624 Anastasia Avenue, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Reservations are required. For more information, call 305-460-5609.

The Coral Gables Farmers Market continues offering fresh produce, gourmet specialty food, baked goods, and a variety of plants and trees for purchase. Schedule for February 20: Tai Chi at Merrick Park (8 a.m.); Gardening workshop on the Wonders of Native Plants by Steve Woodmansee of Pro Native Consulting (9 a.m.); Cooking demonstration by Angelique Euro Café (10 a.m.); and Children's activity hosted by Books & Books with a visit by Maurice Sendak's Wild Thing from “Where The Wild Things Are” (11 a.m.). Schedule for February 27: Tai Chi at Merrick Park (8 a.m.); Gardening workshop on “Growing a Cutting Flower Garden” by Wendy Fleming Saltzburg of Wendy’s Landscaping and Design (9 a.m.); Cooking demonstration by Le Provencal Restaurant (10 a.m.); and Children's activity with the Actors’ Playhouse presenting scenes from Jack and the Beanstalk (11 a.m.). February 21

Coral Gables Congregational Church has gathered some of the most talented opera singers and musicians from South Florida for a concert titled Voices for Haiti to benefit the survivors of the earthquake in Haiti. The event takes place at the church, 3010 De Soto Boulevard, at 4 p.m. Tickets for this benefit concert cost $10 - $25. For more information, call 305-781-5528.

February 22 – 25

The University of Miami's Frost Opera Theatre presents The Merry Widow. This classic Viennese operetta by Franz Lehar will be performed at the Maurice Gusman Concert Hall, 1314 Miller Drive, at 8 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and at 3 p.m. on Thursday. February 24 – March 7

The Jerry Herman Ring Theatre presents Baby with the Bathwater by Christopher Durang. This satiric dark comedy deals with the pitfalls of parenthood. This play will be in rotating repertory with Almost, Maine. February 25

Seniors with busy schedules get together for dinner. ‘Let's Do Dinner!' is a special program for seniors 55+ to make friends and enjoy a great meal together. Participants meet at select restaurants at 6 p.m. and each pays their own bill. This month, seniors meet at Randazzo's, 385 Miracle Mile. February 25

Enjoy a Romantic Movie Night at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. The movie will be shown outside on the Garden House Lawn. Bring your blanket and picnic baskets. This event takes place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Fairchild is located at 10901 Old Cutler Road. Admission is $10 for Fairchild members, $5 for member children ages 6-17, $15 for non-members, and $8 for non-member children ages 6-17. For more information, click here.

February 25 – March 6

February 26

Over the next three years, Seraphic Fire and the Firebird Chamber Orchestra will present the complete Brandenburg Concertos in South Florida. The project begins with Bach's quadruple concerto for trumpet, oboe, flute and violin. February 27

Brazz Dance Theater presents the world premiere of Kayala in celebration of Black History Month. The dance is inspired on the Afro-Brazilian legend of how night came from the sea. The performance, which is free and open to the public, takes place on February 27, 2:30 p.m. at the Area Stage Theater, 1560 South Dixie Highway in Coral Gables. February 27 – March 28

The GableStage at the Biltmore Hotel presents the Southeastern Premiere of Blasted by Sarah Kane. Startling imagery and bleak humor create a theatrical performance complete with destruction, collapse and ultimately redemption and love. It is considered one of the most controversial and shocking plays ever produced. This play is only for adults. Performances take place on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets range from $37.50 to $45. February 27

The Miami Bach Society begins its Tropical Baroque Festival XI with Concerto Soave. This performance by Maria Cristina Kier and Jean-Marc Aymes will showcase the music of the Italian Baroque period. February 27

Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden presents Plants and People: An Interactive Garden, unearthing a world of experiences for people living with Alzheimer's. During this program early to mid-stage patients and their caregivers will be treated to lunch and an exclusive and interactive tram tour of Fairchild. February 28

The Miami Bach Society presents its Tropical Baroque Festival XI. The Bach Society Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Donald Oglesby, plays a selection of Baroque favorites at the Biltmore Hotel, 1200 Anastasia Avenue, at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $40 for general admission and $50 for preferred seating. February 28

The talented doctoral student in piano at University of Miami, Fabiana Claure, has been selected as one of five national recipients of the Yamaha-In Residence Fellowship from the College Music Society Fund. You'll have a chance to hear why she was selected. Fabiana Claure will be performing a Doctoral Piano Recital at Gusman Hall on UM's Coral Gables campus at 8 p.m. Gusman is located at 1314 Miller Drive. For more information, click here.

March 1

The Miami Bach Society presents the Duo Recital: with Vittorio Ghielmi and Luca Pianca from Italy. The duo makes their South Florida debut as part of the Society's Tropical Baroque Festival XI. March 1

The Coral Gables Fire Department is offering residents a free CPR and AED class. Be prepared to handle a family emergency by learning the lifesaving techniques from trained professionals. The class will take place at Fire Station #3, 11911 Old Cutler Road, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. After the course, participants will receive a two-year certification issued by the American Heart Association. Through March 11

Every Tuesday and Thursday at the Coral Gables Branch of the Miami-Dade Public Library System, 3443 Segovia Street, will feature AARP volunteers helping people with their tax returns. The AARP Tax Assistance program takes place at 11:30 a.m. The volunteers are trained to assist in the preparation of tax returns. This is a free service.
